Let’s start with Amazon’s new headache.

Amazon labor Union reform efforts finally have a victory, Amazon workers will be voting on their leadership this time; which notably should've been done in the first place. Embedded is a Tweet from Justine Medina, a long time Young communist league Comrade who took a job at Amazon explicitly to SALT the workplace.

The reform caucus victory comes out of a long struggle of many Amazon workers speaking up against the executives and even suing for the right to elect their leadership last summer. A case that was thrown out, obviously corruption in the Union benefits the company.

Reform Caucus Rises, Sues for Elections in Amazon Labor Union

The democratic caucus will be going to Havana, Cuba 🇨🇺 to show solidarity, and humble themselves to learn from this Cubans how revolution is maintained under impossible conditions. Last time the ALU executives went to Cuba, they treated it like a vacation.

However, this comes late in the game as Amazon, Space X, Trader Joe's and even the damn ACLU take the NLRB to the supreme court in an effort to have it declared unconstitutional and the effect will be that the NLRB can no longer make decisions with their judges but instead federal district judges will make mediations decisions. The only countermeasures the NLRB had Is to countersue these companies for further infringements on the NLRA since the joint suit is itself a deterrent to protected activities. This comes after a Texas judge halts an NLRB ruling that would have allow contractors to be considered a joint employer rather than just a separate employer which would allow the company to be held accountable by workers pursuing protected activities.

Notably much of the motivation for the joint employer rule was the Amazon DSP drivers in California who Unionized with the Teamsters and their contract was let go soon after. Amazon’s DSP is a heavily micromanaged franchise model, everything is provided by Amazon, employees are monitored by Amazon at all times yet are somehow contractors. Contracting itself is a way of obfuscating liabilities. The Teamsters union as a whole has been pushing for contractors to be considered employees in all aspects. These Amazon Teamsters have been on a strike since then and have been posted up at Amazon warehouse all over the country in an effort to empower workers. However, the strike aspect is performative and not entirely true. How can you be on strike if you are no longer employed there?
